Galapagos Reptile's Rest Moment.

Our video shot offers a closeup of a marine iguana, its skin a tapestry of greys and blacks, mimicking the volcanic rock upon which it rests. With a robust, scaly body and a head topped with a crest of spiny scales, this iguana is a testament to the unique evolution of Galápagos fauna. Its clawed limbs and tail are perfectly adapted for a life spent between the rocky shores and the sea. The iguana's gaze is fixated beyond the camera, alert and watchful. Behind it, blurred foliage provides a natural backdrop, hinting at the terrestrial aspect of its habitat.

Marine Iguanas have developed specialized behaviors and physiological mechanisms to cope with the challenges of their volcanic habitat. They are excellent swimmers, capable of diving to depths of up to 30 feet (9 meters) and remaining submerged for several minutes while foraging for algae and other marine vegetation. Marine Iguanas possess specialized nasal glands that excrete excess salt absorbed from their diet of seaweed, allowing them to maintain proper salt balance in their bodies despite ingesting large amounts of saline water. During periods of food scarcity or cold weather, Marine Iguanas may enter a state of dormancy known as "brumation," during which they become lethargic and conserve energy until conditions improve.
