The species Metasepia pfefferi, commonly known as the Flamboyant Cuttlefish, is known for its striking appearance and unique behavior. Inhabiting the tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific, particularly around northern Australia, southern New Guinea, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia, this cuttlefish prefers shallow, sandy, or muddy substrates. It is small, typically reaching only 8 cm in length. The Flamboyant Cuttlefish is a hunter, feeding on small fish and crustaceans. It employs a "walk and wait" strategy to catch its prey, using its color-changing ability to blend into its environment and ambush prey. The species is also noted for its toxic flesh, a rare trait among cuttlefish, which deters predators.
