The Temple of Baal was a grand structure in Palmyra, Syria, dedicated in 32 CE. It was the largest and most significant religious building in the city, symbolizing Palmyra’s cultural and religious importance. The temple’s architecture combined Greco-Roman and Near Eastern elements, featuring a large rectangular courtyard enclosed by an exterior wall approximately 205 meters (673 feet) long on each side. The cella, or inner sanctum, stood on a high platform, and had Corinthian columns and a propylaea, a monumental entrance gateway. The temple was surrounded by colonnades and had multiple altars and a dining hall within its precincts.
