The Arch of Triumph, also known as the Monumental Arch, was built in the 3rd century CE during the reign of Roman Emperor Septimius Severus. Standing about 20 meters tall, its unique design features a double façade that hides a 30-degree bend between the eastern and central parts of the colonnade. The arch was decorated with detailed stone carvings, including reliefs of plants and geometric patterns, showcasing Palmyrene art and Roman influence. In recent history, the Arch of Triumph faced destruction in October 2015 by the Islamic State, causing significant international outcry.
